This book was such a welcome surprise, mostly because I hate (hated??) the pregnancy trope, but that’s a me thing. And no, I do not want to confront my aversion to all things pregnancy at this time, thank you. Regardless, this book did the trope in a way that didn’t have me rolling my eyes (ok, maybe just a little in the epilogue), and wanting to immediately put the book down. In fact, I couldn’t put it down.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Accidental pregnancy, friends to lovers, roommates, cinnamon roll hero
Initial thoughts at finish: 5 stars and 4 spice for Bo’s sexy talk alone. 🔥
Favorite quote:
When you love someone this much, when you’ve seen their hurt and their heart, and you recognize them as your own, you’re left with no choice but to give yourself over to it.
Main story: Win (FMC), fiercely independent, born with a “little hand” that didn’t fully develop, and still healing from a relationship years in the past, meets Bo (MMC) who seemingly has his shit together, is witty, and is also navigating life with a limb difference, at a friend’s Halloween party. They share a night of passionate, steamy, life-changing fun — quite literally — Win ends up pregnant. Now the two strangers must get to know each other while preparing to bring another life into the world
Time it took to be hooked: I love a Halloween party, so I was hooked from page 1!
Favorite part of the book: My favorite part of the book was Bo’s reaction to finding out he was going to be a dad — I don’t want to give any spoilers, so that’s all I’ll say.
What the story meant to me: The amount of inclusivity in this book was *chef’s kiss.* It did such a good job of showcasing the normal lives that people with disabilities are out here living, and even though they may need accommodations, they’re still just regular people, living regular lives.
Final thoughts: I really can’t say enough how this book changed my mind about the pregnancy trope. I loved Win & Bo’s story. Their banter was just so … effortless. It was a joy getting to watch them fall in love.
